  1. The scripts in this directory are executed each time the system enters
  2. this runlevel.

  4. The scripts are all symbolic links whose targets are located in
  5. /etc/init.d/ .

  7. Generally it is not necessary to alter the scripts in this directory.
  8. Their purpose is to stop all services and thus to put the system in
  9. single-user mode.
